Silicone-Covered Flexible Gooseneck Tubes Have Arrived!

Recently we added black silicone as a finish option on our popular 18" light-duty flexible gooseneck tube. By April 2022 we will offer many of our gooseneck tube designs with black and/or light grey silicone coverings.

Silicone is widely used in the healthcare industry because of it's ability to be cleaned and sanitized. As you know a flexible gooseneck tube without a covering has plenty of cracks and crevices for germs to hide! We also have customers who need to use their flexible goosenecks in wet or damp environments.  While the gooseneck itself can rust if exposed to moisture, our new silicone covering will help to protect it. The silicone extends from end to end and can be sealed with a silicone caulk if you need it really watertight.
Since the silicone covers the end adapter slot cuts (flat spots for holding with a wrench) and set screw hole you will need to "roll back" the silicone for access. It's easy to do using your two thumbs like this:
Use your thumbs to roll back the silicone covering and expose the end adapters
Roll back the silicone with your thumbs to expose the slot cuts and set screw hole
While some customers will still prefer the beautiful look of our chrome-plated flexible gooseneck tubes we have found that a raw (bare metal - no plating, painting, etc) gooseneck provides the best bending and "stay put" performance (our silicone-covered goosenecks are raw). This is because a gooseneck holds it's position due to the friction between the inner spring wire and outer wire. Unless the painting or plating process is done to exacting standards, painting or plating can interfere with this friction and result in "rebound" (the gooseneck can bounce back from the set position) or cracking and popping noises.
Silicone-covered gooseneck tubes will allow us to provide you with consistently top quality products that will perform well and last for many years.

Portable Gaming Monitor Supported by SnakeClamp Flexible Gooseneck Arm

Today we have some pictures submitted by a gaming software developer.  Although the ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP portable gaming monitor came with a tripod stand, this customer wanted a solution that didn't take up valuable desk space.  So he turned to SnakeClamp:

ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP portable gaming monitor mounted on SnakeClamp flexible gooseneck tube arm and Megaclamp

This monitor has a standard 1/4"-20 tripod thread on the back so it can easily be attached to our Camera Ball Head.  An added benefit of our ball head is that you can tilt (up to 90 degrees) and swivel it in combination with the flexibility of our  gooseneck tube arms.  The monitor is shown here supported by our 18" Heavy-Duty Flexible Gooseneck in black.

This customer chose our Megaclamp mounting base option which can attach to either a round object such as a pipe or railing or a flat object such as shown here:

In this photo you can see that the ASUS portable gaming monitor is attached to the desktop with our Megaclamp with

Additionally the Megaclamp has two mounting holes so that the flexible gooseneck arm can be attached either to the top or the side depending on your requirements.

UPDATE: Another customer duplicated this setup and discovered that at 2.33 lbs the monitor is a little too heavy for the 18" Heavy-Duty flexible gooseneck.  This monitor actually requires our 18" Super-Duty gooseneck which can support 2-1/2 lbs.

Creating Beautiful Light Fixtures with SnakeClamp Flexible Gooseneck Tubing

We recently received some pictures from a woodworking customer who used our 18" Heavy-Duty Flexible Gooseneck Tubes in Black to fabricate a custom flexible arm light fixture.  To say that we were impressed is an understatement!

SnakeClamp 18" heavy-duty flexible gooseneck tubes used to make custom light fixture

This custom fixture was made from a 14' long piece of driftwood found on the shores of Lake Huron.  Although our flexible gooseneck tubes have female threaded end adapters, you can use our lamp nipples so that you can pull wires through and attach the gooseneck with a nut.

Here is another view of this beautiful fixture:

Should you find yourself on the southern end of Lake Huron in Canada, stop by Lake Life Studio (a glass studio) and see it for yourself!

We'd love to share your flexible gooseneck arm projects with our customers! Whether it's art or you've solved a unique mounting and positioning challenge please send your pictures to support @ snakeclamp.com.  Thanks!

An Affordable Flexible Gooseneck iPad or Tablet Attachment to an Invacare TDX SP2 Power Wheelchair

Among the many uses for SnakeClamp flexible arm products is the assistive devices category. Our products are used to to position and hold all kinds of objects - including iPads/tablets, smartphones, cups/drinks, joystick controllers, etc. - for folks with limited mobility.

We visited recently with a longtime SnakeClamp customer in Charleston, SC who uses an iPad SnakeClamp to attach his iPad to an Invacare TDX SP2 power wheelchair.  The purpose of the visit was to get a first hand look at the powerchair and determine if the SnakeClamp could be permanently attached to the chair.  The powerchair supplier - Bobby Bryant from PHC Health - also joined us.

One of the features of the TDX SP2 is the ability of the chair to tilt back from the base.  So we did not want to attach the SnakeClamp to the base, but rather to the chair itself so that it would also move when the chair was tilted back.  Then the iPad would always be in the same position relative to the user.

While looking over the chair we discovered a T-slot on the side of the chair which is used to attach various components such as side rails. Bobby had a sample t-nut which we inserted into the slot for testing.

After some tinkering we came up with the idea of inserting a 3/8" button-head screw into the slot, along with an internal-tooth washer to prevent rotation.

On the outside of the t-slot we installed a SnakeClamp coupling (SCP-CPL) which has slot cuts for tightening.  With the internal-tooth lockwasher on the inside of the slot we were able to tighten the assembly without any slipping.

We then attached a SnakeClamp 90 Degree Angle Adapter (SCP-90) and Quick Disconnect (SCP-QD).  The Quick Disconnect is optional, but this allows the customer to quickly remove the entire SnakeClamp flexible arm and iPad from the chair with a quick push and twist.

It is important to insert the appropriate washers to lock the components together so we put together an illustration:

The end result is a happy customer.  Shown is the 18" Super Duty flexible gooseneck arm and Extra Large Adjustable Tablet Mount.

Thank you to Reynaldo Acosta for inviting us into his home and for the technical assistance of Bobby Bryant.

UPDATE 5/20/19 -  we have added a "Powerchair Hardware Pack" that includes all of the hardware shown in the picture.  This does not include the Quick Disconnect, which is optional and can be purchased separately.
