Silicone-Covered Flexible Gooseneck Tubes Have Arrived!

Recently we added black silicone as a finish option on our popular 18" light-duty flexible gooseneck tube. By April 2022 we will offer many of our gooseneck tube designs with black and/or light grey silicone coverings.

18" Light-duty flexible gooseneck tube with black silicone covering
Silicone is widely used in the healthcare industry because of it's ability to be cleaned and sanitized. As you know a flexible gooseneck tube without a covering has plenty of cracks and crevices for germs to hide! We also have customers who need to use their flexible goosenecks in wet or damp environments.  While the gooseneck itself can rust if exposed to moisture, our new silicone covering will help to protect it. The silicone extends from end to end and can be sealed with a silicone caulk if you need it really watertight.
Since the silicone covers the end adapter slot cuts (flat spots for holding with a wrench) and set screw hole you will need to "roll back" the silicone for access. It's easy to do using your two thumbs like this:
Use your thumbs to roll back the silicone covering and expose the end adapters
Roll back the silicone with your thumbs to expose the slot cuts and set screw hole
While some customers will still prefer the beautiful look of our chrome-plated flexible gooseneck tubes we have found that a raw (bare metal - no plating, painting, etc) gooseneck provides the best bending and "stay put" performance (our silicone-covered goosenecks are raw). This is because a gooseneck holds it's position due to the friction between the inner spring wire and outer wire. Unless the painting or plating process is done to exacting standards, painting or plating can interfere with this friction and result in "rebound" (the gooseneck can bounce back from the set position) or cracking and popping noises.
Silicone-covered gooseneck tubes will allow us to provide you with consistently top quality products that will perform well and last for many years.

Custom-Made Flexible Gooseneck Arm Bedside Reading Lamps

A crafty customer recently sent us pictures of his custom bedside flexible arm reading lamps built with SnakeClamp components:

Custom bedside flexible arm reading lamps built with SnakeClamp components

While the lamp head is not ours, these were made with our Square Base, 12" Rigid Arm and 24" Flexible Gooseneck Arms. To allow for internal wiring our Lamp Nipples were also used.

Here is another view:

Note that our Square Base does not come with mounting holes (but our smaller Plate Mount does), so obviously if you want to build your own custom reading lamps you will need some basic metalworking skills!

These custom lamps just look awesome!  If you have pictures of your project built with SnakeClamp components please send them to support @ snakeclamp.com so that we can inspire others to build cool stuff.

Portable Gaming Monitor Supported by SnakeClamp Flexible Gooseneck Arm

Today we have some pictures submitted by a gaming software developer.  Although the ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP portable gaming monitor came with a tripod stand, this customer wanted a solution that didn't take up valuable desk space.  So he turned to SnakeClamp:

ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP portable gaming monitor mounted on SnakeClamp flexible gooseneck tube arm and Megaclamp

This monitor has a standard 1/4"-20 tripod thread on the back so it can easily be attached to our Camera Ball Head.  An added benefit of our ball head is that you can tilt (up to 90 degrees) and swivel it in combination with the flexibility of our  gooseneck tube arms.  The monitor is shown here supported by our 18" Heavy-Duty Flexible Gooseneck in black.

This customer chose our Megaclamp mounting base option which can attach to either a round object such as a pipe or railing or a flat object such as shown here:

In this photo you can see that the ASUS portable gaming monitor is attached to the desktop with our Megaclamp with

Additionally the Megaclamp has two mounting holes so that the flexible gooseneck arm can be attached either to the top or the side depending on your requirements.

UPDATE: Another customer duplicated this setup and discovered that at 2.33 lbs the monitor is a little too heavy for the 18" Heavy-Duty flexible gooseneck.  This monitor actually requires our 18" Super-Duty gooseneck which can support 2-1/2 lbs.

Dentists and Hygenists Have Discovered SnakeClamp Flexible Gooseneck Arms!

We have seen a surge in order volume among dentists and dental hygienists due to the Coronavirus pandemic. SnakeClamp flexible gooseneck arms are now being used to mount and position polycarbonate protective shields, suction devices and high volume evacuation systems that reduce aerosols.

Here is a Double Clamp SnakeClamp supporting a suction device:

Unfortunately there are many different dental chair brands and arrangements, so you will have to choose the attachments, flexible gooseneck tubes and mounting bases to best fit your situation. One size does not fit all. Some customers have used our Microphone Clips to support their suction devices or evacuation funnels while others prefer our 3 Finger Clamp.

Here a SnakeClamp Table Clamp, 24" flexible gooseneck arm and 3 Finger Clamp are used to support a high volume evacuation suction device that is meant to reduce aerosol.  This frees up the hygienist so that they can use both hands for treatment:

While we don't recommend splicing flexible gooseneck tubes together because they don't support very much weight, we did have several dentists do that. This one also happens to be very mechanically inclined and created his own suction holder device and figured out a way to attach directly to his chair!  In his own words "The heavy duty goosenecks are perfect for positioning and stability."

Here we have another dentist that is very happy with his setup:

I equipped six treatment rooms with your products, they worked great to keep vacuum lines in place!! Thank you for making these wonderful products, they look absolutely professional. My staff really loves it and appreciate the safety that my creation is providing them.

He used two 24" flexible gooseneck arms splice together with our 1" threaded stud and mounted on our super-strong magnet base.  The 3 Finger Clamp is supporting the vacuum lines.

In this example a dentist was able to support his evacuation hose to a nearby tabletop using our table clamp, 18" light-duty flexible gooseneck and microphone clip:

In this example a dentist drilled larger holes in our Angle Mount and attached it to his equipment using u-bolts:

And here is the other end showing a suction device being held by our Microphone Clip:

Note also that the flexible gooseneck arm above has been coated with a clear heat-shrink material for easy cleaning.  More info on this below.

Some customers have inquired about "cleanable" coverings for the flexible gooseneck tubes.  While we can do that for you it would be a custom order with a minimum order quantity of 250-500 units. We have two other recommendations:

  • You can purchase 2:1 polyolefin heat shrink tubing which is available by the foot from CableTiesAndMore.com.  Choose a diameter that will slide over your flexible gooseneck and then shrink it with a heat gun (available at your local hardware store).
  • You can purchase clear or black PVC tubing at your local hardware store to slide over your flexible gooseneck.  PVC is flexible and easy to clean.

Should you need any assistance in finding a "third hand" flexible arm solution for holding protective shields, suction devices or high volume evacuation systems in your dental environment please call us or send an email.
