iPad as a Document Camera–Bye Bye Elmo!

Posted by on

As the old saying goes: “Tell me, I’ll forget. Show me, I’ll remember. Involve me, I’ll understand.” And … it is true once again.

So, we’ve been contacted by a lot of schools lately and many educators are purchasing SnakeClamp products to use in their classrooms.  iPads in classrooms are truly changing some aspects of instruction, making new technologies available to teachers and students.  One of the uses we have been hearing about over and over is how to use your iPad as a document camera.

Just a little background here, I am an educator.  I was an elementary classroom teacher for 10 years.  I was ‘old school’ (by today’s standards) and used an overhead projector at the front of the classroom.  Yes, I know.  Stop laughing.  That is what we had at the time.  I continue to work with teachers in a different capacity and yes, I have learned how to use a ‘smart board, document camera, iPods, iPads and other technological advancements in my current work.

Last week at a workshop I was facilitating, I took advantage of the opportunity to set up my iPad as a document camera by using the iPad Econo SnakeClamp with the table clamp attachment.  It was so easy and worked like a charm!  The table clamp attached firmly to the table in just a few seconds.  I snapped my iPad into the holder and moved the flexible gooseneck arm into place to face the table and the document I wanted to share.  It adjusted easily and never wobbled.  It worked great and was so much easier than setting up an entire different piece of somewhat bulky equipment (which by the way can cost at least an additional $500.)  Have an iPad 2/3? All you need is a SnakeClamp and you can do this, too!

Ok, truth be known, I have to admit, at first I put the iPad into the holder facing the table, before realizing that I would only get a picture of the ceiling this way.  This is where the old Chinese proverb comes into play…Involve me and I’ll understand.  We have to do things for ourselves in order to really learn.  Whoever does the most work, learns the most.

SnakeClamp gets the work done and makes the presentation so easy.  Try it for yourself!  Hold what you need, where you need it…and let SnakeClamp products help you fully utilize the equipment you already have!

Sorry Elmo. No offense.
